                    Explanation of codes.

Set print orientation to "Landscape" before viewing/printing.

Partial search terms are acceptable.
Example: If you were unsure of the correct spelling for Brachyelytrum septentrionale, you could enter the beginning letter(s) of either the genus or species; either "brac" or "sept" would return hits. For that matter either "b" or "s" would return the correct species, however you would also return a lot of non-targets.

A contiguous range of values is also acceptable.
Example: Entering a...d ("a" then 3 periods then "d") in the county field would return all records for counties whose name begins with "a", "b", "c" or "d"

The county status list of the NC Natural Heritage Program is a listing by county of the elements of natural diversity (rare plant and animal species, exemplary natural communities, and special animal habitats) known to occur in North Carolina. The information on which this list is based comes from a variety of sources, including field surveys, museums, herbaria, scientific literature, and personal communications. This list is dynamic, with new records continually being added and old records being revised as new information is received. As a result, the information on this server cannot be considered a definitive record of natural heritage elements present in a given county and should not be used as a substitute for field surveys.

When this information is used in any document, we request that the date this list was compiled be given and that the NC Natural Heritage Program be credited.
